1. What is a “program application review”?
A.) This would be any single grant program such as the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program or the Justice Assistance Grant where your agency is the sole applicant and you are completing and writing the application for your agency and you would like us to review your work prior to submitting the grant. Using our “Best Efforts” and experience a consultant will comment, edit and make suggestions to you which should decrease your chances of making a critical mistake and increase the overall score of the grant.
2. We are considering a joint grant proposal with other public safety agencies in our region. Can we get your help on this project through the Senior Advisory Package?
A.) No, not as part of your Senior Advisory Package however; please call or email me (kurt.bradley[at]HDGrants.com) to discuss the specifics and I will work with you to develop a price and schedule that will meet the needs of your regional project.
3. I am the grant writer in a City where we have police and fire departments. Can the four separate grant applications reviews be for either agency?
A.) Yes, you may submit up to a total of four applications, regardless of which department they are for, if the account was set up in the name of your city or town.
4.) Does using your services guarantee that my application will be funded?
A.) No, there is no grant consultant that can guarantee you will be funded, as we are not the funding source and as such we do not make the decisions on who is awarded. The winners are decided totally independent of our input. Our assistance does however assure that you are submitting an application that has had the Best Efforts in reviewing, commenting and editing skills of our expert consultants which routinely results in your application scoring higher.
5.) Can your services help us with managing an award?
A.) Yes, please call for further information.
6.) Can you provide me with examples of various funded grant programs?
A.) Yes, in most cases.
7.) Why should we use Homeland Defense-Grants instead of someone else?
A.) Our focus is specifically targeted at grant programs that will benefit public safety agencies. All of our consultants are current or former public safety employees who have “in the trenches street experience” and specific grant writing experience from which to draw. Their unique skills and experience makes them a better choice when seeking funding for programs specific to public safety needs.
8.) How can a Homeland Defense Grants review of my proposal help my agency?
A.) Grant scoring for Federal and DHS type programs is performed differently than for many other grant programs. Your proposal must meet the funding sources priorities and there are many factors that go into how the grant is scored. DHS grants are frequently scored by “peer review” panels and their level of expertise in their career field makes it imperative that you are meeting certain requirements that they must agree are clearly shown in the grant. Having a completely objective review is sometimes critical to being certain that your program is in fact addressing the funding sources priorities and that these priorities are addressed in such a manner as to be compelling enough to make your grant score higher than the next grant. We can assist in evaluation of your effectiveness and being certain that you have addressed these priorities properly to achieve a higher score. These programs are highly competitive and can be decided by as little as 25% of a single point; having our input to those items can truly make a big difference.
